  • WA Emfatyk to Stand First Season at Stud!

Dec. 22, 2008

WA Emfatyk

Wintersteen Arabians is pleased to announce that homebred WA Emfatyk (*Ecaho x Estansia by Monogramm) will be available for sire duties this spring.  "We have had a great deal of interest in him and decided to offer him at public stud", states Bonnie Wintersteen.  "Emfatyk's beauty and one of a kind pedigree has certainly raised some eyebrows, especially with his sire *Ecaho no longer at public stud.  Emfatyk is still available for purchase to the right situation and home, but in the meantime we decided to get his breeding career up and going."  Already there are a number of mares booked and his Colorado Breeders Cup breeding sold shortly after it was offered.

WA Emfatyk has numerous Colorado Breeders Cup Championships as well as being named Champion Stallion at Estes Park.  He is currently in reining training.  Emfatyk introductory stud fee with be $1,000 and will be represented by Premier Breeding Services, LLC.  For more information, please contact us at:  info@wintersteenarabians.com

WA Miraczyk winning the Colorado Breeders Cup Reining Championship with Bob Wintersteen up.

Oct. 3, 2008

Wintersteen Arabians had some wonderful success at this year's fall show.  The weekend began with WA Miraczyk winning the Colorado Breeders Cup Reining Championship with Bob Wintersteen in the debut performance for both horse and rider.  A special thanks to Manny Beltran for his help in preparing the duo for this competition.  Next up was the yearling gelding WA Epic earned the CBC Reserve Championship Yearling Colt/ Gelding with Kara Wintersteen at the lead.  Kara also led WA Emfatyk to his third consecutive championship in the Colorado Breeders Cup, this time in 3 Year Old Colts.  In addition, the WA Pejczyk gelding GF Jet Stream owned and bred by GF Force Arabians won the 3 Year Old Gelding Championships.

In open halter, the 3 year old colt WA Maksimum, fresh from race training this summer, won his class in open halter and went on to capture the Reserve Stallion Championship for the show under the professional handling of Wally Post.  Thank you Wally for the superb presentation of this very special horse!

In performance classes the following day the Pejczyk daughter WA Elegancja bred by Wintersteen Arabians and owned by Tisa Meisel won the CBC Western Pleasure Championship, it was her 6th CBC Championship!  A few hours later she won the Reserve Championship in the CBC Hunter Pleasure.

WA Pejczyk also cemented the Top Stallion Award for the fifth consecutive season.  The Top Stallion Award is given to the highest point total of a stallion's progeny in all CBC events.  Pejczyk progeny demonstrated their incredible versatility earning points in halter, reining, hunter pleasure, western pleasure, endurance, racing and SHIH including 5 championships and 4 reserve championships!  Our heartfelt thanks to our clients and friends who continue to show and win with Pejczyk progeny.

  • WA Borkata finishes her first endurance ride!

Liz Wheeler and Kara take off for 25 miles.

Liz Wheeler (1) and Kara (4) set off for 25 miles.

Aug. 23, 2008

The four year old WA Borkata, by WA Pejczyk and out of the late *Boruta (Alegro x *Borowina) bred by Janow Podlaski finished her first 25 mile endurance ride this weekend with 16 year old Kara Wintersteen.  What makes this feat even more impressive, is Borkata's last race was 5 ½ furlongs just over a month ago at Arapahoe Park!  In addition to racing and endurance, Borkata has successfully competed in halter, hunter pleasure and sport horse in hand.  Last year, Borkata was named Region VIII Reserve Champion SHIH, also with Kara at the lead.

One thing is certain, endurance is NOT racing.  We have never heard of anyone going the wrong way at the track.  The same cannot be said for the Wintersteen's first endeavor into endurance.  In fairness, seemed to be an epidemic with a lot of the competitors and that was the major complaint heard around the water trough.  Kara and "Katie" needed to stay with their sponsor for the ride because of Kara's age.  Liz Wheeler was kind enough to help us out in this regard on her gelding Sparky, and Liz's years of experience were certainly welcome.  Liz is 70 years young and logged hundreds of miles on the trail!  The duo of Liz and Kara, however, put in far more than the required 25 miles making not one, but two wrong turns.  Regardless, they finished 2nd and 3rd in the Colorado Breeders Cup event, that, had they not done the extracurricular riding, possibly otherwise could have won.

Live and learn, a frustrated Kara vows to come back next year without the sponsor requirements and get it done right.  As for the horse, Katie looked like she was just getting warmed up at the 12 mile vet check, but a series of wrong turns and pushing hard at the end left her a little tired.  Having spent the summer at the track, we could almost see her asking, "What kind of race is this anyway?"  There maybe horses with glitzier championships on the farm, but few compare to dad's blue collar filly -- none have done more in different event after event, the epitome of Arabian versatility.

WA Miss Emaranta crosses the wire for her first win -- Kim Collier up.

WA Miss Emaranta crosses the wire for her first win, Kim Collier up.

July 11, 2008

Sometimes trendier bloodlines and the vigor of youth are just no match for traditional breeding and experience.  The 7 year old *Emanor daughter WA Miss Emaranta showed her younger rivals how to get to the wire first, winning a 51/2 furlong test at Arapahoe Park.  Under jockey Kim Collier, the big gray mare broke alertly but then settled back her more usual racing style off the pace.

"She was just moving so relaxed, I just let those other two [Finally Sue and Dancers Misty Reign] go on, just wanted to stay close.  As we were by the 3/8ths pole and coming onto the turn, they just started coming back to us," explains Kim.  "I let Emaranta out a notch but she didn't respond at first, then I shook the reins and yelled, 'Come on Em, lets go get this thing.'  She just took off!  When we made the lead about mid stretch, I was just smiling, laughing, and kept saying, 'Come on girl, you're gonna be a winner!'  I am just really happy for the Wintersteen's, she is a great mare."

Ricky Collier, husband of Kim, took over training responsibilities while regular trainer Jeff Wintersteen was out of town.  "Ricky has done a great job with her, especially adapting to our idiosyncrasies of liking to have the mare on the farm.  After the 3rd she ran, it was just hard to take her away from them [Colliers'].  I couldn't be happier they got it done for her.  Ricky and I talked earlier, we really liked our chances today, especially if she could be close late.  Emaranta is just a game mare, if we could get her near the finish with a chance, I felt confident she would get it done", relates Jeff.

"I couldn't ask for any more from her," says Ricky.  "She was totally on her game today and just annihilated the rest of them."  Emaranta's final winning margin was 6 lengths and she stopped the clock at an impressive 1:13.1.

"This is just so exciting," says Bonnie Wintersteen, "we love this mare, I am so happy what she has done.  To show up and better the Line Dancers and French horses just shows a good Polish horse can hold their own, some days far more."  Bred by Wintersteen Arabians, WA Miss Emaranta is out of foundation mare Melissa SA, daughter of one of the last *Bandos sons Bandit SA and out of Canadian TT Mare in both Halter and English Pleasure, Mustamagic.  Emaranta will be retired at the end of the summer to broodmare duties, her planned mating for 2009 is *Piaff.  This is her sire *Emanor's first winner in the US.

This will not be the only family of Melissa SA on the Colorado track this summer, grandson of Melissa SA, WA Maksimum, by *Ganges is showing great promise and scheduled to make his debut in the COBRA Juvenile in August.

Celebration in the win circle with family and friends.

    July 4, 2008

WA Elegancja winning her 5th CBC Championship with handler Kara Wintersteen.

WA Elegancja winning her 5th CBC Championship with handler Kara Wintersteen.

Wintersteen bred horses found success at Estes Park Class A Show during the holiday weekend. Not only was it a great weekend for horses from the farm, but especially the foals out of our premier broodmare Estansia by Monogramm. The weekend started with her *Ecaho son WA Emfatyk named Grand Champion Stallion in his first outing as a three year old. This win was followed with Estansia's WA Pejczyk daughter, WA Elegancja, winning her class and was then named Reserve Champion Mare for owner Tisa Meisel. In addition, Estansia's youngest foal to date, the yearling WA Epic, also by WA Pejczyk, won his gelding class and Reserve Champion Gelding.

The next morning, WA Elegancja won her 5th Colorado Breeders Cup Championship, this time in Sport Horse in Hand! The four year old mare has previously won three in halter and one in hunter pleasure in the Colorado Breeders Cup. She will return this fall to defend her hunter pleasure championship at the CBC show finale in October. Also of note, WA Epic won the Reserve Champion Colorado Breeders Cup Sport Horse in Hand against all older horses, bested only by WA Pejczyk gelding GF Jet Stream. GF Jet Stream was bred and is owned by GF Force Arabians.

    June 28, 2008

WA Miss Emaranta finished third today in her second start of the season.  The big gray mare found herself on the lead under Kim Collier after breaking alertly.  "I was a little unsure about the filly in the three hole, so I sat on her a bit leaving the gate," states Kim.  "I was able to slow everything down on the front end then."  Emaranta lead the field through the quarter before relenting the lead.  She dug down and was able to maintain her position down the stretch.

"She did a great job today," states usual trainer Jeff Wintersteen who handed over training duties while out of town the last month to Kim's husband Rick.  "So have the Colliers', they have a good relationship with her.  Hopefully I can pick it up from her and get her a win."

  • WA Miss Emaranta turns in fastest work of the day!

    May 17, 2008

WA Miss Emaranta turned in the fastest work of the day for Arabians going 3 furlongs today at Arapahoe Park.  The 7 year old gray mare was ridden by Kim Collier for a final clocking of 40.2, the 3rd fastest at the track this spring.  "She was very eager today and did everything on her own," relayed Kim.

"I am not surprised," said conditioner Jeff Wintersteen, who was out of town for the *Emanor daughter's move.  "I have been up on her in her gallops, she is really coming into her own this season... we are hopeful for good meet for her."  Emaranta is slated for her first start of the season on June 6, 2008.

  • Estansia to be bred to *Hun!

    *Hun

Recent import from Bialka State Stud -- *Hun to be bred to Estansia.

    April 29, 2008

We are pleased to announce, after much deliberation, our premier broodmare Estansia will be bred for a 2009 foal to recent import from Bialka State Stud, the *Gazal Al Shaqab son *Hun.  "We really wanted to bring the blood of Gazal Al Shaqab to the farm.  Gazal has proven himself in Poland, not only in the show ring with incredible horses like *Pianissima and *Emandoria but on the track too with the 2008 Derby favorite Wadi Nur  -- proof Gazal was truly an inspired choice for Poland," explains Bonnie.

*Hun is out of the Kurozweki bred mare Hula who was a 2006 Pride of Poland sale graduate for 160,000 Euros to Australia.  "Beyond just *Hun's sire," continues Jeff, "we are very impressed with his dam Hula and second dam Hulanka, arguably one of the best Eukaliptus daughters not from Michalow.  The quality and type of *Hun is self evident, but also both broodmare sires, Penthagonn, who we saw in 1995, and world renowned Eukaliptus, had tremendous length of neck which really sealed the deal."

*Hun is owned by the The Hun Partnership and on behalf of the partnership, Nancy Gallun expressed delight in *Hun attracting such a high quality mare like Estansia to his book.  *Hun has only been shown twice in the US, both to Regional Championships at Region I and Region III.  The 5 year old stallion will be campaigned nationally when he is 7 years old by Greg Gallun.

  • Enchantor FEA Sold!

    April 25, 2008

We are delighted that Enchantor FEA (*Ecaho x Estansia by Monogramm) has found a new home with.  He was purchased by Randi Nicole Kilzer of Centennial CO.  Randi is planning to put the gray colt in dressage training.  We couldn't be more pleased, Randi loves him, so we know he will have a great home", comments Bonnie Wintersteen.

Enchantor FEA was bred by Dr. James Ferlita and is owned in partnership with Wintersteen Arabians.  Enchantor's sire has recently sold and his stud book has been closed to the public.  "Certainly there has been some renewed interest in *Ecaho sons.  *Ecaho is a one in a million type sire, with him out of reach of the public, people are starting to look for the second generation," states Bob Wintersteen.

  • Pejczyk's First Half Arabian - Peyd N Gold!Pejczyk's Half Arabian Palomino colt - Payd N Gold

    April 8, 2008

WA Pejczyk's first non-purebred Arabian was foaled a few days ago for owner/ breeder Marcia Epstein of Parker CO.  The palomino colt is out of a Quarter Horse mare Otoe's Gold N Motion.  Marcia is very excited about not only his unique color, but great structure and Arabian type.  The tentative name for this youngster is the appropriate Peyd N Gold.

"We are very pleased for Marcia.  We are also excited about Pejczyk's foray into the half Arabian world.  Obviously with Pejczyk's athletic abilities, we hope to be able to attract more QH mares looking at reining and working cow athletes," states Bob Wintersteen.  "This little guy will hopefully show his ability to produce with these mares."
