  • Brilliance Finishes 3rd in First Race Against Colts!

Brilliance SF makes her way onto the track at Sam Houston Race Park, Texas.

    Nov. 17, 2004

It was flooding in Houston, but that didn't cancel the races.  It did, however, provide for a sloppy track as Brilliance SF made her first start against the boys, and second career start ever.  "She is a classy filly and really gritty", relates trainer Liz Brand after her third place showing.  "I am really proud of her, she is just going to be that much better her next time out.  She broke well, settled and then came running between horses down the stretch.  She took a lot of dirt in the face, but just kept coming."  Brilliance made this start 20 days after coming down with lung infection which sidelined her training till about a week ago.  Brilliance is scheduled for a Filly Maiden race on December 1st, in which she probably will be favored.

  • Phyllan -- dam of WA Pejczyk -- Semi Retired to Texas!

    Nov. 14, 2004

Phyllan, foundation broodmare and dam of stallion WA Pejczyk, was semi-retired to Abilene, Texas under the care of granddaughter Kara Wintersteen.  She shares pasture and barn with her daughter WA Piekna.  Kara has used Phyllan in barrel racing and pole bending and the two get along very well.  "That prompted us to send her with Kara, and since Kara adores her, I am sure she won't be lacking for attention," states Bob Wintersteen of his favorite mare.  Phyllan's impact will be lasting and far reaching with Wintersteen Arabians and many of our clients, the daughter of Kurozweki bred *Bancock has had 5 foals, three with the Wintersteens.  The biggest impact of course will be through her son Pejczyk over 10 grandget by spring 2005.  "She may still be used for one more foal, we still have that option for a couple more years.  The obvious choice would be to go back to *Europejczyk", concludes Bob.

  • Pejczyk's Colorado Breeders Cup Breeding, Already Sold for 2005!

    Nov. 13, 2004

Pejczyk's popularity continues as his Colorado Breeders Cup breeding for 2005 has already been sold to the Harding's -- Judy and Alan.  They recently purchased two exceptional broodmares from Dewayne Davis -- the Brazilian import *Allysia HCF (*Almadden II x *NV Sharena/ Bey Shah) and MHR Sweet Dreams (*Elimar x Bask Princess/ *Bask).  *Allysia's foal, Allyshah by Pejczyk was a three time class winner this fall at the CAHC Fall Show.  She is currently in foal again to Pejczyk.  Sweet Dreams produced an exceptional filly by Pejczyk, Sugar nd Spice.  Currently they plan to use the breeding for their mare Mystical Dreamer (Falconn x Alis Alexandria).  Congratulations to the Harding's and good luck with their future foals.

  • Brilliance Works - Readies for First Race Against Colts!

    Nov. 13, 2004

Finally -- was all Brilliance's connections could think after the sizzling work turned in Saturday morning.  She is again back in form after her first out on Oct. 28th.  Having contracted a lung infection just prior to the race, she was severely compromised in her first official start.  "It was disappointing that she wasn't 100%, she certainly could run with that group fillies," states owner Jeff Wintersteen.  Brilliance finished 6th.  "She was coughing by the time we got the saddling paddock, so we had no choice but just have the jockey take care of her."

Brilliance's work has erased that memory and she is back to 100%.  In her first official work since her illness, she was the fastest of the day for Arabians -- including recent Delaware Park arrival, Queen Kong.  The French-bred has been undefeated since arriving in Texas.   "I am excited about getting her to the gate 100% to see what she is capable of.  I, along with her connections, are still really confident in her abilities," concludes Jeff.

  • Brilliance Works for First Time at Sam Houston!

Oct. 6, 2004

In her first official work at Sam Houston Race Track since arriving on Sept.22, Brilliance SF was, in a word, brilliant!  Her 4 furlong work of 54.0 was the fastest of the morning for Arabians.  Trainer Liz Brand praised the move, "anything under 56 is good here, to go in 54 flat is impressive.  We added some blinkers, small french cups.  It seemed to help her focus and not get distracted from the horses on the inner turf course."

Brilliance has settled into her routine and is starting to relax.  She is currently slated to make her first start on Oct. 28th provided everything stays on schedule.  "Right now I am trying not to get to too excited, this is racing and anything can happen," comments owner Jeff Wintersteen.  "That said, all the connections have the confidence that she could could be pretty special."

    Sept 22, 2004

A couple of hours before dawn, Brilliance SF (*Pepton x Brillant Light/ *Probat) unceremoniously arrived at Sam Houston Race Park just outside Houston Texas.  Brilliance had been in race training this summer with Jeff Wintersteen, but did not start prior to the close of the meet at Arapahoe Park.  "She was training great, but we just had a couple set backs with a cold, and getting the gate approval.  By the time she was ready to go mid August, they never wrote us a race," states Jeff.  "I have a ton of confidence in her potential, and didn't want all the work to go to waste.  Everything was just coming together for her to go to Texas; Sam Houston has as good as surface as anywhere in the country, Brilliance is showing a ton of talent, there are plenty of filly races, and Liz [Brand] had some space.  If it had been anyone other than Liz, Brilliance wouldn't have made the trip", continues Wintersteen .

Brilliance is now with trainer Elizabeth Brand, who just won the $20,000 Texas Oaks with Brilliance's 3/4 sister Clearly Classic.  Brand is excited about her new charge.  "I love my *Pepton filly Clearly Classic, she is so honest, so I am excited about having a second *Pepton daughter in the barn.  While there are a lot of similarities, hopefully she can equal Classic's performance on the track."

Brilliance's first start in Texas will also represent the first time Wintersteen Arabian's silks will race outside the state of Colorado.

  • Pejczyk Foals Win at CAHC Fall Show!

    Sept 3-4, 2004

With just a quick glance at the sires of the weanling fillies prior to the Colorado Bred Futurity on Friday night, you might be tempted to predict the winner would come from a known sire like Magnum Psyche, FS Bengali or Dream Quest.  If so, you would be mistaken – for in a remarkably deep class of very nice fillies, it was the WA Pejczyk (*Europejczyk x Phyllan/ *Bancock) filly, appropriately named WA Elegancja, which took top honors.  Bred by Wintersteen Arabians and out of the Monogramm daughter Estansia, the filly was shown to the win by Caroline Scott for owner Tisa Meisel of Castle Rock, Colorado.  Tisa purchased the filly at just four days old!  “I told Bob and Bonnie if Estansia had a gray filly I wanted her.  Estansia is just beautiful and Jeff had such faith that Pejczyk could produce.  After my first trip to Poland with the Wintersteen’s this year, to come home and have my own little “E line" win is just great!”  Elegancja also went on to win the Colorado Breeders Cup class as well.

Elegancja wasn’t the only success for Pejczyk, in the Colorado Breeders Cup – limited to foals of nominated stallions -- Pejczyk’s get were 1st and 2nd for both the weanling colts and fillies, and the only Pejczyk yearling, a filly, won her class as well.  This easily gave Pejczyk the sire title for the Breeders Cup.  The second place Breeders Cup weanling colt, BFA Matisse, was also second in his Futurity class for owners and breeders Francis and Pat Roberts.  Matisse is out of the Wintersteen Arabian bred mare, WA Miss Elegant.  The Roberts re-booked her to Pejczyk shortly after the birth of Matisse.

On Saturday morning, it was the second Pejczyk colt’s turn to shine, Allyshah, who won the large weanling open colt class.  Out of the imported Brazilian mare *Allysia HCF, this extremely tall and well-built colt was recently purchased by Ann Carvalho of Elizabeth, Colorado.  *Allysia HCF was quickly re-booked to Pejczyk by owner Dewayne Davis.  The first thing to grab you is the colt’s extreme vertical neck set, everyone is looking forward to see where he ends up under saddle.  Allyshah also won the Colorado Breeders Cup Weanling Colts and the AOTH Stallion class against the aged stallions!

“We have always put a lot of faith in Pejczyk,” proudly comments Bob Wintersteen.  “Most people just view him as a racehorse, he just reminded them he won in the halter ring as well.  We worked hard to get Pejczyk some nice mares and it is starting to pay off.  A lot of trainers have come up and commented what nice bodies and legs his foals have.  While that is true, Elegancja and the Robert’s colt are just so typey, while that Allyshah can really move.  They are just so much more.”

    Wintersteen's Enjoy Polish Nationals!

The Wintersteen's at the famous clock tower of Janów Podlaski State Stud.

    August 13-17, 2004

The Wintersteen's enjoyed Arabian Horse Days in Poland, including the Polish Nationals, International Race Day, Pride of Poland Sale and tour of the State Studs.  We love to be able to continually enjoy the Poles breeding progress and be able to use some of their innovation and knowledge to hopefully improve our own program.

  • Pejczyk Thrills the Crowd at the Arabian Horse Celebration!

Pejczyk thrills the crowd at the Arabian Horse Celebration in Denver

    August 6-8, 2004

WA Pejczyk thrilled the crowd at the first ever Arabian Horse Celebration at the Denver Events Center.  Over 10,000 visitors came to the 3 day event.  During the twice daily shows, Pejczyk demonstrated the athleticism of the racing Arabian by delivering hair-raising sprints around the small arena -- after which, he accommodated young children on his back in his stall.  Newcomers and experts alike were astonished at Pejczyk's phenomenal athletic ability and his quiet and patient disposition.  One admirer commented, "When he turned from the trot and just exploded into a sprint, it just gave me the chills.  He is absolutely amazing!"  Pejczyk was ridden during the weekend by exercise rider Megan Gromelski for trainer Jeff Wintersteen and breeders Wintersteen Arabians.

  • Loss of Esteemed Broodmare *Boruta

    July 16, 2004

The Wintersteen family is greatly saddened by the passing of *Boruta (Alegro x *Borowina) on July 16 due to an obstruction in the passage from the stomach to intestine. *Boruta showed signs of discomfort when she came in for afternoon rest and lunch. The vet was rushed to the farm and upon his advice *Boruta and her 2 ˝ month old foal were taken to Littleton Large Animal Clinic. *Boruta was diagnosed with a rupture shortly after arrival and humanely euthanized.

*Boruta was bred by Janow Podlaski. Her dam was the 1990 Polish Reserve National Champion *Borowina, dam of *Boruta's maternal siblings Borek and Boryslaw -- both Race Horses of the Year in Poland. *Boruta herself was a race winner and imported to the US in 1996 by Meadow Wood Farm. At the time of her death she was owned by Dewayne Davis and on lease to Wintersteen Arabians. She foaled a beautiful filly, WA Borkata, by WA Pejczyk and was in foal to him again. The orphaned foal is doing well, a blessing that *Boruta will leave a lasting legacy on the farm -- and through her -- one of the great racing families of Poland. *Boruta will be greatly missed by the Wintersteen's and those that were fortunate enough to know her.

  • Brilliance's First Official Work Proves Fast!

    June 23, 2004

Brilliance SF recorded her first official work today at Arapahoe Park, the fastest of the day for 3 furlongs for Arabians and 4th fastest out of 24 overall including Thoroughbreds! "I couldn't be more pleased," states trainer Jeff Wintersteen who was in the irons for the work. "She really took the bit at the 3/8ths pole. We drifted a bit wide coming off the turn, but she got the lead change. There was a pair of Thoroughbreds coming about 1/8th behind, I checked them as we crossed the wire. They hadn't made up any ground, so I knew she was cooking." If the bay *Pepton daughter comes out of the work all right and stays on schedule, she should make her first start the end of July.

  • '91 Region VIII Sweepstakes Champion Filly in Foal to Pejczyk!

June 14, 2004

LL Jealousy (Lamolin x Bluspruce Desire/ WK Russian Heir) owned by Jim and Cindy Gromelski of G Force Arabians is checked in foal to Pejczyk for 2005. This multiple halter (including Region VIII Yearling Sweepstakes Champion), western pleasure and hunter pleasure champion is the latest of an outstanding group of mares in Pejczyk's court. The Gromelski's have had numerous breeding successes, including National Champions in Trail, Scottsdale Champion in Reining and Colorado Futurity Halter Champions. We are honored the Gromelski's have entrusted one of their best mares to Pejczyk.

"We are so excited about the merits of these two individuals [Jealousy and Pejczyk], both have just fantastic bodies," states Cindy Gromelski. "And Pejczyk is passing this structure on, his latest group of foals are simply fantastic -- he is just doing a great job. We have high hopes for this foal."

  • Pejczyk's final foals of the season have arrived!

June 10, 2004

The last of Pejczyk's foals have arrived. MHR Sweet Dreams (*Elimar x Bask Princess/ *Bask) delivered a small, but very typey filly for owner Dewayne Davis. The filly is very correct, upright and we are very anxious to see how she matures.

WA Miss Elegant (Elegant SA x Melissa SA), full sister to Colorado Futurity Champion WA Miss Mirabell, delivered a full blooded sibling to outstanding filly WA Miraczyk. The bay colt is already exhibiting an excellent neck and pole. Owners Pat and Francis Roberts are thrilled and have already bred back to Pejczyk.

  • Pejczyk's second colt foaled out of Brazilian import!

    May 15, 2004

Pejczyk's second colt arrived in 7 foals total. The stunning colt, weighing an unbelievable 120lbs. at birth is out of the Dewayne Davis owned mare, *Allysia HCF. Mr. Davis also owns the colt. The colt is exceptionally well built and typey, and certainly one of the Pejczyk's better foals to date. We are extremely happy for Dewayne and glad he was rewarded for his faith in Pejczyk.

*Allysia HCF is by the popular Brazilian stallion *Almaden II, the *Alladdinn son of Polish breeding. Her dam is the Bey Shah daughter, NV Shahrena, bred here in the United States and then exported to Brazil. Mr. Davis is re-breeding *Allysia HCF to Pejczyk for 2005.

April 30, 2004

She brings to the farm the superior dam line of *Borowina, 1990 Reserve Polish National Champion and dam of Race Horses of the Year Borek and Boryslaw. In addition, *Boruta brings to the farm the precious blood of Polish National Champion Algeria through her son Alegro, sire of *Boruta.

  • WA Elegancja Sold!

April 25, 2004

Estansia's first foal WA Elegancja, by WA Pejczyk, was sold to long time client and friend, Tisa Meisel of Castle Rock Colorado. Tisa's current mare is getting older and she wanted a replacement. She has always loved both parents (Pejczyk and Estansia) and is excited to have such a nice filly (and gray!) from one of the best dam lines of Poland -- if not the world!!. WA Elegancja will remain at the farm in the short term and is currently pointed towards the Fall Show.

  • Estansia's first foal born by Pejczyk -- to be rebred to *Ecaho!

March 10, 2004

Pejczyk's first foal of the year -- gray filly out of Estansia (Monogramm x *Erwina/ Palas).

Estansia's first foal was born, a spectacular gray filly by WA Pejczyk. She prompted noted equine scholar, Scott Benjamin to comment, "Love her - an absolutely great bod(y). That superlative hip is paired with a outstanding shoulder - PJ [Pejczyk] is definitely the body source. He is light years ahead of so many stallions out there in terms of his ability to sire good structure." This filly represents the immortal dam line of Estokada and will be named WA Elegancja in honor of her great grand dam. This filly is the the first of 4 Pejczyk foals due at the farm for 2004!

Estansia will be bred to 1995 Polish National Champion, *Ecaho for 2004 and 2005. *Ecaho was recently imported from Poland, bred by Janów Podlaski and purchased by James Ferlita of Ferlita Arabians. *Ecaho is already a proven commodity as a sire, already sired numerous champions including World, European and Polish National Champions.

  • Pejczyk Represents Arabian Racing at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo!

Pejczyk meets "Seabiscuit", one of the movie doubles at the Expo.

March 13-15, 2004

WA Pejczyk fulfilled an invitation to represent Arabian Racing at the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo, March 12 -14, 2004. Over the course of the 3 day show, he took part in 8 demonstrations where the "finale" consisted of him sprinting around the arena with exercise rider Megan Gromelski. This was definitely a hit, and a crowd favorite. Numerous trainers were impressed with not only his stunning conformation, fitness and overall quality, but also his very patient disposition. Pejczyk entertained numerous children that sat on his back during his breaks.

The multi national trade show will run from March 18 – 21. Over the four-days, more than 50,000 spectators are expected to attend the largest equine education recognition show to ever be held in Canada. • *Boruta Joins the Wintersteen Mare Band!

    February 3, 2004

    *Boruta in Poland -- 1996

Wintersteen Arabians just completed a lease arrangement for *Boruta (Alegro x *Borowina/ Etap) to join the Wintersteen mares for 2 seasons. *Boruta is owned by Dewayne Davis who bred her to WA Pejczyk spring 2003. *Boruta was bred by Janów Podlaski and is a race winner in Poland. She was purchased by Meadow Wood Farms at the 1996 Polish Prestige Sale. She is a maternal sister to Boryslaw -- Polish Race Horse of the Year in 1988 and Borek -- Polish Race Horse of the Year in 1990 and 1991. The two brothers have won 16 stakes races between them, including the Produce, Criterium and a 2nd for each in the Derby. Borek, Boryslaw and *Boruta are all sired by *Probat or *Probat sons, making thier genetic ties even stronger. What makes *Boruta's addition to the farm even more exciting is she is her dam's proven success in crossing with *Europejczyk. Her dam, *Borowina, produced Janów Podlaski's finest *Europejczyk daughters -- Bogatynia and Bogdanka. *Boruta will produce a foal this spring by our *Europejczyk son WA Pejczyk and will be re-bred for a 2005 foal. She will return in 2006 to Mr. Davis in foal to WA Pejczyk. The foals will be COBRA and Colorado Breeders Futurity nominated and pointed to either the track, show ring or both.
