Our
farm:
Wintersteen Arabians is
located a mile and a half north of Elizabeth, Colorado on County Road
17. The farm is situated on 80 rolling acres with 3 barns (23
stalls total), round pen, hot walker, riding arena, 1 mile European
style training track, several turnout pastures ranging from 15 to 40
acres, and smaller paddocks. Visitors are always welcome, appointments
appreciated.
Our breeding
philosophy:
Our breeding philosophy
was fashioned through our numerous trips to Poland, and is driven by a
love for that country, her horses, and a husbandry and horsemanship that
is not found anywhere else in the world. The Polish ideal of beautiful
athletes is not a hollow claim, but built on centuries of breeding
decisions and generations of proven individuals. As the Arabian breed
becomes more fractionalized into various disciplines, we endeavor to
breed beautiful and athletic Arabians that will stand as a constant
reminder of the inherent versatility of the breed. We also believe it
is crucial this be done with a gentle horsemanship and husbandry that
puts the Arabian horse first and foremost, and never uses artificial
manipulation or drugs in either showing or racing. After all, showing
and racing are merely tools to evaluate breeding selections, not a means
unto themselves. It is in this spirit and philosophy we show and race
our young prospects for evaluation and marketing, and remain above all a
breeding farm.

soundness, and temperament.
Our management
philosophy:
Our horses are handled in a "Polish"
manner, including being turned out in large herd from the barns. We do
not believe in stalling a horse for long periods of time and so all horses
are turned out to pasture daily -- including stallions, and horses in
show or race training. We show all our horses in halter and
performance classes, starting at a young age. We also believe strongly
in the Polish tradition of breeding stock proving themselves on the
track. While we do use outside trainers, when possible all our horses
are raced and shown from the farm. Young foals are turned out
with the rest of the herd as soon as they are able. All foals are
imprinted (handled right from birth) and are treated like favorite
grandchildren. This serves well for training and starting under saddle,
as well as making them real people lovers.
